There is a growing demand for products, buildings and
environments, which are accessible to everyone regardless of abilities. It’s a
concept know as universal design defined as, “The design of products and
environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible,
without the need for adaptation or specialized design.” according to the Center
of Universal Design at North Carolina State University.
Universal design includes several principles, of which
accessibility for individuals with disabilities is one component. To assist
residents with questions about meeting accessibility needs George Maestas
of GFM Constructionhas received specialized training from Best
Bath Systems related to bathroom accessibility.
“This training allows us to be an excellent resource to
individuals and families regarding accessibility issues relating to remodeling
strategies for the home.”said George
Maestas.
